Our outstanding research output – along with our expertise in social, cultural, economic, transnational, environmental and digital history – makes — an excellent choice for pursuing a PhD in History. Our faculty research, teach and write about history in Britain, Europe and across the globe. This means you’ll be supervised by leading practitioners in your field. We welcome research proposals in all aspects of: - early modern and modern European history - British history since 1500 - American history - digital history - global history - the history of science and the environment - the history of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia. We understand that deciding where and what to study is a very important decision. We’ll make all reasonable efforts to provide you with the courses, services and facilities described in this prospectus. However, if we need to make material changes, for example due to government or regulatory requirements, or unanticipated staff changes, we’ll let you know as soon as possible.

You’re normally expected to have a Masters degree and an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree. Your qualification should be in history or a related subject area. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
