Privacy & Cookies

The short version

You can answer our questions and see your matched courses without giving us any personal details. We only ask for your name and email when you choose to reveal which universities your matches are at — and we tell those universities you're interested, which is how the service stays free. We use privacy-friendly analytics to improve the site, and only after you accept cookies. We don't run advertising trackers.

Who we are

StudyDecidr is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us about anything on this page — including any of the rights below — at hello@studydecidr.com.

What we collect, and why

• Your course preferences(subject, grades, career interests, funding) — used to score and rank courses for you. These travel in the page address and aren't tied to your identity unless you unlock your matches.
• Your name and email — collected only when you unlock a university, with your explicit consent. Lawful basis: consent.
• Account details — if you create an account to save searches, we store your email and an encrypted password via our authentication provider (Supabase).
• Analytics — if you accept cookies, we record anonymised usage (pages viewed, steps completed) to improve the service. Lawful basis: consent.

Sharing with universities

When you unlock your matches, you consent to us sharing your name, email and course interests with universities whose courses match your profile, so they can contact you about their courses. This is the core of how StudyDecidr works and is why we ask for explicit consent first. You can ask us to stop at any time (see below).

Cookies

• Strictly necessary(always on) — a signed cookie that remembers you've unlocked your matches, and login cookies if you have an account. These don't need consent.
• Analytics(only with consent) — Google Analytics 4 and PostHog, used to understand and improve the site. Loaded only after you press “Accept”. We enable IP anonymisation and don't use advertising features.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which resets your cookie choice.

How long we keep it

Lead details are retained while they're useful to the universities you were matched with, and then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to the providers' standard retention settings. Account data is kept until you delete your account.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to stop sharing it with universities. Email us and we'll action it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
