The goals of the Masters of Maori Studies are to equip graduates with a wide range of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary skills and knowledge of contemporary te ao Maori that include a high level of fluency in te reo Maori me ona tikanga, matauranga Maori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This is combined with an understanding, for example of Indigenous, political, social and economic conditions and solving real-world problems. Graduates will be equipped to engage independently and collaboratively in rigorous intellectual analysis, and critique of contemporary issues facing Tangata Whenua/ Tangata Tiriti, and bring novel solutions to local and global challenges.

Admission to the Master of Maori Studies requires that the candidate has: (b) been awarded or qualified for a relevant Bachelor degree or equivalent with at least a B grade average across 75 credits of the highest level specialisation courses; or? (c) been awarded or qualified for a relevant Postgraduate Diploma, or an equivalent qualification, with at least a B+ grade average across the 700-level courses for entry to the Research Pathway or a B grade average across the 700-level courses for entry to the Coursework Pathway.?
